Blown-In Insulation in Fayetteville, AR

The most cost-effective way to bring an under-insulated attic up to today's recommended R-value, usually in a single day. Serving Fayetteville from our Bentonville shop since 1996.

Plenty of Fayetteville houses were built before insulation code existed, then insulated once, decades ago, and never touched again. That single retrofit, usually attic-only, is the defining condition of the city's older housing stock, and it is why the attic is where an insulation dollar goes furthest in this city.

One retrofit, decades ago

Walk the streets of Washington-Willow or Wilson Park and you are looking at homes that predate any insulation requirement altogether. Most were insulated retroactively at some point, often only in the attic, with whatever the standard was at the time. That material has now had decades to settle, and settled loose fill loses R-value as the air pockets inside it compress. The Department of Energy puts this climate zone at roughly R-38 to R-60 in the attic; a one-time retrofit from another era does not get close, and measuring the actual depth is the first thing we do at an inspection.

Old framing is what loose fill was made for

The attics in these houses are not standard. Framing was cut to fit the house, braces and blocking sit where a builder needed them, and decades of wiring and ductwork have been added since. Batts have to be cut around every one of those obstacles, and every cut is a gap. Blown-in fiberglass installs loose through a hose and flows into and around all of it, so coverage is continuous into the corners and along the eaves where heat loss concentrates. In an irregular old attic that difference is not marginal; it is the difference between rated and actual performance.

If what is up there is dry, clean, and free of rodent activity, new material goes directly over it. If we find contamination, water damage, or mold, which decades of history make more likely in housing this age, removal comes first and is priced up front in the written estimate.

Half the fix in many old Fayetteville houses

Here is the honest caveat: in the older parts of this city, an under-insulated attic and a damp vented crawl space are the single most common pair of findings, and they respond best to being fixed together. Topping up the attic while humid crawl space air keeps rising through the floor solves half the problem. When the inspection finds that pair, we will show you both, with photographs, and let you sequence the work; crawl space encapsulation is the other half. Newer construction south and east of town rarely has either issue and usually needs something narrower.

Most Fayetteville attics are finished in a day: blower outside, hose in, depth marked with rulers, baffles keeping the soffit vents clear, and the hatch insulated on the way out. The blown-in hub covers the process in full, the Fayetteville insulation page covers the city, and the free estimate is where the measuring stick meets your actual attic.

Blown-In Fiberglass questions in Fayetteville

What homeowners ask before we start.

How much does blown-in attic insulation cost?
Three things drive the price: the size and accessibility of the attic, how much depth has to be added to reach the recommended level, and whether old material has to come out first. Blown-in is the most cost-effective way to fix a thin attic, partly because it installs fast and can usually go over insulation that is still in serviceable condition. Every estimate is free, in person, and in writing, so you see the number before any work starts.
Can you add blown-in insulation over what is already there?
Often yes, if the existing insulation is dry, clean, and free of rodent activity. Adding depth to serviceable material costs less than removing and replacing it. If we find water damage, mold, or contamination, we will tell you it needs to come out first and explain why.
How long does a blown-in attic job take?
Most attics in Northwest Arkansas are finished in one day. Larger or harder-to-access homes can run into a second. We mark the finished depth with rulers, so before the crew leaves you can see exactly what was achieved and where. Your written estimate includes a firm timeline.
