Spray Foam Insulation in Fayetteville, AR

Open and closed cell foam for attics, walls, metal buildings, and new construction. Seals air leaks and insulates in one pass. Serving Fayetteville from our Bentonville shop since 1996.

Fayetteville has some of the oldest housing stock in Northwest Arkansas, including entire historic districts where the houses predate insulation code altogether. That makes this city the sharpest test of whether a spray foam contractor is honest, because foam is the best tool available for some of these houses and the wrong tool entirely for others.

Houses that predate insulation

In Washington-Willow, Wilson Park, and on the slopes of Mount Sequoyah, we regularly inspect homes that were insulated retroactively decades ago, often only in the attic, and often with material that has long since settled. The framing in these houses is irregular, the penetrations are everywhere, and the air leakage is usually a bigger factor than the missing R-value. Open cell spray foam suits that situation well: it expands into odd cavities a batt would have to be cut around, seals the leaks as it insulates at roughly R-3.7 per inch, and stays vapor permeable, which matters in an old assembly that needs to dry.

But old houses demand a caution newer ones do not. Foam is permanent, and foam applied over a moisture problem seals that problem in. Before we spray anything in a historic Fayetteville home we inspect for moisture history and the condition of everything the foam will touch, and the water gets fixed first, every time. You also get the scope documented in writing, foam type, depth, and location, which is the paperwork that protects an old house at resale.

The newer builds south and east

Newer construction on the south and east sides of Fayetteville presents a completely different call. These houses are tighter, and what they reliably have instead is the bonus room over the garage and the vaulted ceiling, the two spots where the geometry outruns the builder's insulation. A bonus room sits with conditioned space on one side and outdoor temperatures on five, and sealing its knee walls and roofline with foam is the targeted fix for the room that never matches the thermostat.

When foam is the wrong call here

Some Fayetteville houses should not buy spray foam, and we say so at the inspection. If the attic plane just needs depth and the sealing is adequate, blown-in fiberglass delivers most of the comfort for meaningfully less. If the musty smell that prompted the call is coming from a vented dirt crawl space, which sits under a fair share of older Fayetteville homes, foam in the attic will not touch it and the honest recommendation is crawl space work instead. We install all three services, so the recommendation follows the house rather than the truck.

The Fayetteville insulation page lays out how we approach the city as a whole, and the spray foam hub covers the open cell versus closed cell decision in full. The place to start is the free estimate: in person, in writing, and occasionally ending with us telling you that you do not need us. In a city with houses this old, that answer comes up more than you would think.

Spray Foam Insulation questions in Fayetteville

What homeowners ask before we start.

How much does spray foam insulation cost in Northwest Arkansas?
Cost depends on three things: the square footage being treated, open cell versus closed cell foam, and how accessible the space is. Because those vary so much house to house, we price every job with a free in-home estimate, in writing, before any work starts.
Can mold grow behind spray foam?
Cured foam itself does not feed mold. Problems come from sealing foam over an existing leak or damp surface, which traps moisture that had been escaping. That is why we inspect for moisture before quoting and fix the water problem first. Foam applied to a dry, sound surface stays dry behind.
Is spray foam insulation safe once it is installed?
Yes. Cured spray foam is inert and stays put for the life of the building. The cure window is the part that matters, which is why we ventilate during application and tell you exactly how long to stay out of the space. You get that timeline in writing before we start.
